Discovering Pollution

This afternoon we went on a quest to discover pollution our main aim was to find what was causing the pollution. But before any of that we had to find out wether our river the Hautapu river was actually polluted. We discovered much rubbish and was disgusted with the amount of waste that was being poured into the river.

We found drains that obviously contained the stormwater but also in them there was obvious un wanted disposel of clothing items and chemicals from i.e. car washing and other bad for the enviourment materials.
Hope to update you later
leave me some info

Dear Jess,

Your teacher is a good friend of mine, even though we don't live in the same town, let alone the same country. I met your teacher in the USA in 94-95, where we were both exchange students discovering what life was like in another country, far away from our own.
I am from Belgium and I am an English teacher. As I saw one of your favourite subjects was English I just had to write a comment to you!
I visited your country in December of 1999, the North island in particular, and although I have never been to your town, it sounds wonderful (apart from the polluted river, but I am sure you can do something about that ;-). I love New Zealand and remembering what I saw, I thought of your country as a really clean, healthy place to live. I never encountered any polluted places, which is a big contract with Belgium. Although there are some beautiful places here too, there are also many polluted rivers, and even our ocean (the North Sea) is not as clean as it should be.
I wish I could give you some more advice as to what specifically you can do about your river, but I kind of hope, you can let me know what you decide to do about it, so that maybe I can try to make a change here!
Good luck and keep me posted!

Hi Jess
I'm really enjoying reading your blog. Love the goals you've set! I'm from Palmerston North. The Manawatu River is also polluted and there is a group here working hard to improve the river. It's a lot of work but people working together in a group, as you are, can achieve a lot. Good luck - I'll keep looking at your blog.

Jess
i am a friend of Rachels from school. I am currently living in London, England. I love hearing about different people conserving the environment and and I think your project is such an brilliant idea. Here in London they are just starting to get organised with recycling and making people more aware of day to day things they can do to help. I am proud to be from NZ, a country that is 'environmentally friendly' (people just drop there rubbish on the ground all the time over here!!) and to see students driving such worth while projects.
All the best with your project and I will keep looking on to see how you are getting on.

Hi Jess,

I've enjoyed reading your blog, and I think it's great that you and your classmates have taken the initiative in cleaning up your local environment. I live in San Francisco, California, which is one of the most eco-friendly cities in the US. The city just passed a law that will ban all plastic bags from grocery stores over the next few years-- I saw this was an idea your class had too, so you're in good company! People here really care about the environment, and since I recently had a baby, I'm thinking about protecting the world for her even more.
I've never been to New Zealand but I'd love to visit someday. Here in California everyone talks about the natural beauty of NZ, so keep up the good work keeping it clean for all your visitors!
